A New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 4:17-32
In our texts the common phrase is “ in Christ.” Knowing what it means to be in Christ is fundamental to understanding our topic “A New Creation”
To be in Christ means to be immersed/ surrounded in the life of Christ and at the same time separated/ excluded from every external influences. It means adoption by faith into the life of God and separated from the world standards and principles.
Implications for Being “in Christ”
Anyone that's in Christ is automatically transformed into a New Creation (2 Cor. 5:17). Being “in Christ” implies that:
1. We become one with Christ/ come in oneness with Christ. Gal. 2:20; Gal. 4:7.
to become one with Christ means we are now partakers of His divine nature. We are joint heirs together with Christ of heavenly riches.
2. We have positional advantage. Ephesians 1:19-23; Ephesians 2:4-6.
This means that our being in Christ makes us seat with Christ in the heaven places far above unclean spirits and satanic forces. When we come to the consciousness of our positional advantage over the devil and his cohorts, we will no longer be afraid of them but operate with a higher mindset.
3. Our positional advantage comes with authority. Matthew 28:18; Luke 10:19; Philippians 2:9-11
Being seated with Christ makes us share in Christ’s authority. We must understand that we have authority in Christ, and we must begin to exercise our divine authority.
Being A New Creation comes with Responsibilities
Christ has paid the price for our redemption, but it's our responsibility to work it out with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:13). The grace to do this has been made available because Christ is working in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure. It's our responsibility to:
1. Put off the old man and put on the new man Ephesians 4:17-32. The old man is our sinful nature, the tendencies to do evil. Our new man is the righteous we have in Christ
2. To be transformed by the renewal of our mind. Romans 12:1-2
3. To love the body and seek for the growth of the body.
